E46 Replacement dampers advice

Hello All,

Need some advice on replacement dampers for my 2004 E46 320d Special Edition (Individual)

Car got just below 400 000 KM's on the clock.
Whats the best to get?: Monroe or Gabriel? (Not impressed with Bilstein at all Reason to followBluebiggrin

I replaced OEM front and rear shocks, mounts with Bilstein shocks and mounts last year 2017-06-05 (To be exact) 360 000KM

1st Problem - Rear Shock Mounts (Bilstein) only lasted about 200KM, then had to be replaced under warranty
2nd Problem - Noticed car being a bit dodgy on the road a couple of months back, decided to get suspension checked out today. To my surprise everything checks out except that all 4X Bilstein shocks are worn, Yap- Not even 40 000KM (About 37 000km) and they are shot.

Not sure, how long does dampers (Shocks) suppose to last? (Keep in mind only reason I had to replace my OEM shocks was because 1 shock (Left front) was bent and wheel alignment could't be done. (I don't believe in just replacing one suspension component at a time - pairs) and that I don't drive gravel roads ect.

E36 Rear shock dust covers

Greetings,

I’m having trouble sourcing rear dust covers for the ‘36 shocks.
I have tried the well know spares shops etc.

Can anyone suggest if a dust cover from another vehicle may work?
Willing to go with a concertina style dust cover over the rigid cover that the car normally comes with.
I do have the bump stops for the rear, those where available.

Injector Cleaners

Hi Guys

I am going to be doing a long trip down to the northern cape in December and was considering using an injector cleaner to take benefit of the long running time the engine would be doing.

Im not experiencing any issues and its purely as a preventative measure,

what are your thoughts on using injector cleaner and which brand is best/better ?

Not too shabby for an almost 9 year old 320i with 217k kms on the clock.
Halfway to Dbn with aircon on all the way.

Filled R400 in Edenvale which was half tank and have quarter left at the Van Reenens stop

I just noticed that my car is leaking petrol when the engine is running as seen on the attached pic not sure yet if this is from the injectors.

The time has finally come. After a number of back and forth decisions on which would be the ideal car for me, I finally found the gem that ticks (just about) all my boxes.

Took delivery on Thursday.
A couple of details about her:
2014 BMW F30 328i
Estoril Blue
Kms:100300kms
Msport
Professional navigation system
Sport transmission
Heated seats

That’s the only photo I currently have of her (I know not the best, but it’s the only one I could snap whilst making my way to the office [pitched up later than expected for work, all because of her smile bounce])

My (New) 2014 F30 330d

Ok so as per my previous post , I was toying around the idea of getting an F30 330d for a while, financially it didnt make sense as my 2011 E90 320d msport was the best car I've owned, it was paid up, low mileage and in excellent condition, no way is the F30 330d double the money but the petrol head that I am , I make car decisions with my heart and not the head.

so when I found this immaculate 1 owner (elderly gentlemen) 2014 330d with all the extras I wanted and only 76000km I fell hard , the only consolation I had was that my brother took ownership of my E90, sold it to him for the price I was gona get on trade.

My thoughts so far is the 330d is an absolute beast, its normal and civilized but can blow your mind when in sport or sports + mode.
The gearbox is a peach and changes are seamless even when using the steering pedals, the interior and boot are spacious. The wide screen, I Drive with pro nav makes the E90 interior feel outdated but it does feel slightly heavier than the E90 as well and if I am honest I feel the E90 build quality is better, I think partly its due to the electric steering , the F30 feels effortless easy and refined while the E90 felt connected and stiff especially after I did control arms with poly bushes.
I'm sure il get used to it with time though.

Fuel Leakage on E90 LCI

Hi Guys

I have now owned a E90 LCI 320i for the past 1.5yrs. Believe it or not I never got to fill up the tank until recently, and to my horror it literally leaks fuel when it goes beyond 3/4 of the tank.

I have recently also changed the fuel pump about a month ago with a BMW agent, my initial suspicion were that something went wrong in the replacement of the pump. But BMW said they dont touch the Tank in replacing the pump. The leaks seem to come from above the tank, cant really see from where really

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any similar experiences with this, and what might be the cause.dunno anymore

F30 Halogen and Xenon headlight swap

Hi guys,

So I may be selling my car and purchasing a relatives as it is lower mileage and auto. Both are identical with the exception of mine having xenons and his halogen.

In order to swap is it just a matter of unplugging and changing the lights or are there any additional components that will be needed for the xenons to work on the previous halogen model and vice versa?

Any advice will be appreciated.

I thought it’s time I started a rides-thread.

Details as follows

2008 BMW 330I M sport
6 Speed Manual ( the main reason I bought this car )
Sat-nav
Sunroof
Alpine white
The rest of the car is pretty basic.


1 pervious owner
Immaculate condition for its age
My wife calls it a “unicorn” lol


I’ve owned this car for a few months now and I must say everyday I drive this car I just fall more and more I love with it! This is by far the best vehicle I’ve owned to date.

Vibration on E90 not going away after Flexi disc + centre bearing replacement

So I had this problem on my automatic 320d E90 where it would vibrate very heaviy under acceleration or going uphill so much that highway trips were out of the question. Upon driving the rev counter will be all over the place even at idle it would be trembling just a bit. Upon reading the advice from several forums I narrowed the problem to the propshaft and bought the front and rear flexi discs and centre bearing which were installed by some guys at Super Quick where I also replaced my control arms. After the work we took the car for a test drive and the car only started vibrating around 160km / hr. On the way back the vibration was back at lower speeds like 80km but much lower than first time. Rev counter is stead on driving and rock steady at idle. Upon further reearch I realise may this could be my tyres (I have normal 17s on the back and run flat 17s on the front) and its something I have always wanted to fix but never got round to doing. My question is to fix the problem should in what order should I do the (1) wheel balancing (2) wheel replacement to same size (3) having the centre bearing preloaded because I don't think those guys knew anything about that and kinda struggled to put back the propshaft after putting the flexi discs. Now I am no longer sure and hope having those three done will trouble shoot the problem.

Sasol 10ppm diesel

Why should Sasol charge 16.32 for a litre of diesel when everyone else charges before 15? In fact, everything else at Sasol is expensive. A coke buddy (now 440ml) can go for a cool R20 & I doubt they see anything wrong with that.
These guys need to reform & start selling us 10ppm @ 14.50. I don't even know why I use 10ppm, is it even necessary?
