My driver door locking mechanism has suddenly stopped working (door cannot open)
1. Key doesn't open the door (all other doors open fine with key or fob)
2. Unlocking via the car unit also doesn't open it (all other doors open fine)
3. When trying to open the door while sitting in the seat, the visible "lock pin" goes up but then goes down when I release the handle.
4. I've checked the fuses as per the diagram and they both are fine
I've just been to SMG Cape Town this morning for a quote on repair and the SM told me it's the door lock as he can hear the actuator each time he presses to unlock. He also mentioned that the reason it's not opening when Pull the handle on the inside is because it's initiated the double lock feature - the same as when the car is alarmed. I was quoted R960 for the door lock set and about 2 hrs labor at R900 per hour (excludes 1 hour diagnosis at R900)
Now I want to know if that's a decent price or is there some place else in Cape Town I should go to that will be a bit cheaper.
Mind you I can book my car in on Tuesday the earliest to get it done.
From the threads I've read it seems like it's a 3-4 hr diy but I just can't find time right now to even think about a diy as my wife drives the car for community service daily.
Car in question is a 2011 e90. Closest dealerships are SMG Cape Town (home) and Auto Atlantic (work)
