E30 Aux (Long Range) Fuel Tank Removal

I have an E30 which I love and have owned for the last 20 years... I have always hated the 2nd fuel tank, it always gets an air lock when filling petrol and is completely useless... Normal fuel tank is 55l and aux tank (long range) adds another 15l... All SA models were fitted with aux tanks as far as I know...

The point is I want to ditch the aux tank for whatever reasons (you name them, more boot space, less weight, no air lock, no point having it etc etc)...

So of course I tried to remove the tank... My conclusion is that you can not remove the aux fuel tank because then your fuel gauge stops working. Each fuel tank has its own fuel gauge. Tried to unplug Aux Tank Fuel Gauge Sensor But now the fuel shows empty. Tried to bridge the fuel gauge but now it is showing 120% full.

But of course the European models came out with the 55 litre tank only so I KNOW it is possible to remove the tank but how???
